Lesley Fernow, M.D., FACP has been in private practice of Internal Medicine in Dover-Foxcroft since 1979. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and is board certified in both Internal Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She has lectured in the fields of palliative medicine and geriatrics, is the Medical Director of the Mayo Regional Hospital Oncology Service since 1979, working closely with EMMC Cancer Center, and is the Regional Medical Director for the Hospice Program at Community Health and Counseling Services, a Medicare-certified hospice, and for Pine Tree Hospice, an all volunteer hospice.

Internists are specialists in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in adults. Internists manage all common chronic illnesses of adults, including diabetes, heart and lung disease, and hypertension. Dr. Fernow strives to diagnose and treat the whole person in a compassionate, skillful way, focusing primarily on chronic health concerns and on empowering patients to attain optimal physical and mental health.

In August 2009 she closed her office practice and now does house calls full time, bringing her experience and compassion to patients who cannot easily get to a doctor's office in their homes. She also sees patients at area nursing and boarding homes. She continues to perform simple skin lesion removal, joint injections, simple lab tests, EKGs, Alzheimer's disease screening, physical exams and management of chronic health problems, management of acute illnesses, and flu immunizations on an appointment basis. Same day appointments are usually available. Insurance generally covers home visits for people who are homebound. For people who want to see Dr. Fernow at home but are not home bound, she will accept cash payment.

She remains closely connected to Mayo Regional Hospital services and caregivers.
