Dexter Internal Medicine is staffed by Robert Lodato, M.D., an internal medicine physician. Internists are specialists in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in the adult, and specialize in adult medicine.
Internists manage all common chronic illnesses of adults, including diabetes, heart and lung disease, and hypertension. We help our patients avoid or prevent the development of chronic illness, and also provide basic women's health, substance abuse and mental health services. We treat common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs. Since the practice specializes in adult medicine, patients must be 13 years or older.
Dexter Internal Medicine wants to work with patients to either maintain or improve their health. Dr. Lodato has a special interest in the link between nutrition and health.
Services available include preventive health care and dietary counseling, sports physicals, pre-operative examinations, cancer risk assessment and screening, smoking cessation, adult vaccinations, blood pressure checks and ear irrigations. Also, EKG, blood drawing, strep throat testing, glucoscans and warfarin monitoring are provided at the office, as well as such minor procedures as mole, skin lesion and cyst removal, and joint injections.
The practice is operated by Mayo Regional Hospital and inpatient care is provided at Mayo. Nursing home care is provided through Dexter Health Care.
