| Present: Sharon Foster, Community Partnership Director; David Walker, SAD 41 Supt.; Susan Crippen, North Country Healthy Communities; Tom Lizotte, Mayo Regional Hospital; Cathy Cobb, C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital.
Under old business, meeting opened with updates by Sharon Foster on:
- Q cards. These are being distributed throughout the region and have proven popular.
- Hiring of School Health Coordinators. SAD 46, after readvertising for the position, hopes to begin interviews July 19. New Supt. Les Butler was involved in the Waldo County tobacco grant process while in Belfast and has good understanding of the program. The SHC is not expected to be on board in time to attend the Bureau of Health training at Sugarloaf late this month, so Sharon will attend for the PPHC. Advertising for the second SHC position to be shared by SAD 4, 41, 68 and Union 60 will begin after the SAD 46 position is filled. It has been suggested that the best way for the SHC to be shared among the four districts will be to have regular days set in each district on a weekly basis, rather than rotate among the districts on a quarterly basis or by semesters. Dave Walker agreed that schedule would be preferred in SAD 41.
- New members. Sharon is compiling a list of potential new members to be part of the PPHC coalition. Using videoconferencing should help recruit representatives from the Moosehead region. Recruitment of YAP members is scheduled for August in the five school districts.
- Legacy Grant. Sharon shared the draft of a grant proposal to the American Legacy Foundation for a grant-funded program proposing a family and community-centered approach to combating rural tobacco use. The proposal by Medical Care Development would use Waldo and Piscataquis counties as pilot sites for a concentrated effort that would integrate well with our existing anti-tobacco efforts. Members agreed to sign letters of support for the grant.
- Governor's Cardiovascular Summit. Sharon reported her attendance at this networking conference in Augusta. She also reported she is meeting monthly with other area project directors.
Under new business:
- Sharon Foster reported community assessments will begin in August.
- PPHC will have an anti-tobacco booth at the Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming Aug. 4 and at the Piscataquis Valley Fair Aug. 23-26. We will use PTM giveaways and promotional materials and may even have the PTM race care available at the fair for a day.
- Susan Crippen reported on Communities for Children and Communities of Promise initiatives, and how they may be integrated under the PPHC umbrella.
- Sharon said the Bureau of Health is planning a site visit for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. It was agreed that the next PPHC Executive Committee meeting could coincide with that visit.
Meeting adjourned. Next meeting; Friday, Aug. 10, at Mayo.
