1. Welcome and Introductions

2. “Super Size Me” videos both the uncut version and the educational version is available for loan. Marion McLellan, MRH Dietician is running youth nutrition classes for more information you can contact her at 564-4255.

3. Update – PPHC/HMP Resources, Grants, other projects

  1. Pandemic Flu Community Planning
  2. Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls
  3. PPHC Minigrant Program – 3 applications received (April 15 deadline) – Approved $3,000 grant to support the Every 15 Minutes program.
  4. Sharon Shorette – Hired as Worksite Wellness Coordinator, she will be working with small business owners to promote Worksite Wellness and develop a Worksite Wellness Network.
  5. Local Recognition – Planned for September, considering September 20 from 4:30-6:30 instead of regular 1:00-3:00 meeting (more details will follow once confirmed) – need success photos and to identify 6 local heros from each school (school board member, community member, superintendent, school staff member, etc.) and the community. Each school will be asked to develop a display that highlights their achievements.
  6. Media Campaign to highlight healthy behavior messages – the health messages will relate to the importance of breast feeding, diabetes awareness, sun protection, stroke awareness, 5-2-1-0, the need to call 911, Heart Attack Awareness, Worksite Wellness, etc. The announcements will run on 5 radio stations (Q-106 and others – WQCB, WEZQ, WWMJ, WBZN, WDEA) with 27 spots per month per station. This is a collaborative effort with Mayo Regional Hospital's Marketing & Development Department.
  7. New PPHC Workplan – Review/Highlights.
    1. Got A Minute? – Prevention Through Parenting Campaign – All SHCs and MOOSE Coordinators should have received a copy of the packet. SHC and MOOSE Coordinators will be asked to implement this campaign within their areas.
    2. New Areas – Sun Protection and Asthma Individual Plans/Education, Worksite Wellness, Youth Access to Alcohol, Colon Cancer Awareness.
    3. No Butts! Program – Targeting Retailer
    4. Tobacco Free Recreational Areas
    5. Tobacco Cessation – focus on women
    6. Diabetes Awareness, collaboration with Diabetes & Nutrition Program
  8. Mark your calendars - Next Year's Meetings will be held from 1:00-3:00 (or 4:30-6:30 – Celebration Dinner) on September 20, 2006, December 6, 2006, March 21, 2007, and June 6, 2007.
