First part of meeting took the form of a site visit with school partners, the Bureau of Health and the Dept. of Education. All five school partners presented updates on their activities.

Regular meeting of the PPHC followed, with Renee Speh presenting proposed bylaws for the Council. A key change is the formation of a Steering Committee, meeting quarterly or as needed, to set policies, approve contracts, and be responsible for significant decisions. Other project-oriented work will be performed by task forces. Action: Proposed bylaws approved.

Renee shared suggested dates for quarterly Steering Committee meetings: Sept. 17, Dec. 17, March 17 and June 16. Meetings will switch from 1-3 p.m., to 3-5 p.m. Action: Meeting schedule approved.

Renee shared proposed PPHC strategic plan from July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2006, and list of task forces and other groups with which PPHC is involved is engaged on work plan items. Information only.

Renee reported the PPHC has successfully applied for an Americorps/VISTA position to work on substance abuse prevention issues. The full-time, year-long position starts Sept. 1, and the individual hired will complete an assessment of alcohol/tobacco use among area teens, as well as assist Renee with PPHC goals. Information only.

Renee shared plans for her maternity leave, starting around July 1, and her schedule for returning to work. There are plans to hire a part-time program assistant to help cover while she is out this summer.
