Renee opened the meeting by distributing new copies of the PPHC brochure. Also, Renee reported on PPHC participation in the annual Chamber of Commerce Business Expo on April 4-5.

Bulk of the meeting was devoted to review of the PPHC strategic plan for 2003-2006. Renee explained that whereas previous strategic plans had covered only one year, this plan will address the remainder of the initial HMP grant program. PPHC members felt that a three-year plan was preferable in light of the long-term nature. Additional feedback was that the eight major objectives in the first draft of the plan were reasonable, realistic and attainable. Renee said a key goal will be to broaden PPHC membership in the coming year.

PPHC members reviewed each of the eight major objectives in the plan, along with the accompanying strategies. Under the nutrition promotion objective, it was agreed to add to the strategic plan a new point to study barriers to providing good nutrition in the schools. It was suggested that school health coordinators and area school food service directors could collaborate on that point.

Renee will incorporate feedback on the strategic plan into a new draft. Deadline for submission to the state is April 19

Next meeting: May 14, 1-3 p.m. at Mayo, to be preceded by the state's annual site visit.
