Our Mission
The Piscataquis Public Health Council, a coalition of community organizations, schools, and individuals that strives to develop an environment that supports a healthy life through education, prevention, advocacy, and services. Click here for complete mission statement.

What do we do?

  • Educate our communities
  • Organize teen leaders
  • Protect the public from second-hand smoke
  • Educate and support employers and organizations
  • Help people quit using tobacco
  • Promote tobacco-free policies
  • Help make public recreation more accessible
  • Promote healthy eating habits
  • Help make nutritional food easier to get
  • Foster worksite wellness programs
  • Encourage policies that make it easier to be healthy.
  • Provide lending library of educational materials.
  • Offer educational programs.
  • Political Advocates for Health locally and state-wide.
  • Promote use of local farmers
  • Collaborate with Piscataquis County Emergency Management Agency to develop Countywide Pandemic Flu Preparedness Plan.
What can you do?

In your community:

· Help your town create easily accessible parks and trails.
· Serve healthy snacks at events.
· Help plan a community garden.
· Promote tobacco-free areas.
· Become a member of the Piscataquis Public Health Council
For youth:
· Challenge students to help their friends be healthier.
· Take a walk or cook a healthy meal with a young person.
· Teach kids healthy shopping.
· Help kids say no to tobacco.
· Become a member of the Health Team at your local school.
At work:
· Adopt a tobacco-free policy.
· Reward physical activity.
· Provide shower facilities.
· Serve healthy food.
· Provide insurance incentives.
· Initiate a Worksite Wellness Team.
In healthcare:
· Lead community initiatives.
· Counsel patients on physical activity, nutrition, and the dangers of tobacco.
· Make services accessible.
· Adopt a tobacco-free policy
