Special Care Unit

Mayo Regional Hospital has the only Special Care Unit in Piscataquis County. This self-contained unit has two private rooms located on the Medical Surgical Unit. Monitoring of the patients is accomplished with the latest technology available and a dedicated team of experienced RN’s.

Our hospital-based providers called hospitalists, provide 24/7 care for patients in the Special Care Unit. Our primary responsibility is to deliver quality, compassionate care.

We recognize that this is a stressful time for family members; the nursing staff will make an effort to keep the family updated on the patient’s condition. It would be in the best interest of the family and the patient to have one family member designated the “family spokesperson.” This person would have the latest information and would be the contact person for the rest of the family. The new SCU rooms include a comfortable place for the family to be with their loved one.
