Emergency Department

You can count on us in an emergency
Mayo Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department is always open for you. The department is connected to the patient registration area off the main lobby of the hospital. It has a separate walk-in entry for pedestrian traffic and a canopied, two-bay ambulance entrance. It is conveniently located just around the corner from Radiology and Cardiopulmonary Services. An elevator connects the department directly to the Medical/Surgical Unit on the hospital’s second floor. So while we hope you don’t need to visit our Emergency Department, we’re ready just in case.

At Mayo’s Emergency Department, you’ll find:

  • Specialized treatment rooms for resuscitation, trauma and cardiac care; routine eye, ear, nose and throat problems; orthopedic injuries and obstetrical emergencies
  • Laboratory, pharmacy and imaging services for diagnostic X-rays, ultrasound, CT scanning and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • 24-hour, inpatient “hospitalist” physicians as well as Emergency Department providers and an exceptional nursing and clinical team.

Your experience at the Mayo Emergency Department
Upon your arrival, a triage nurse will determine the nature and immediacy of your problem. X-rays or lab tests may be performed to help the emergency provider evaluate you more efficiently. Following this assessment, you may be taken directly to a treatment room or be registered by the admitting secretary.
While we make every effort to expedite your care, please understand that patients are treated based on the urgency of medical need. The seriously ill and injured must be seen first. If your condition requires follow-up evaluation and treatment, we’ll provide you with appropriate referral information prior to departure.

Get the most out of your visit:

  • Be ready to list your allergies
  • Bring your medicines or list of medicines and your insurance card
  • Update your address, telephone number, and insurance information, if needed
  • Identify your primary care doctor and any specialists related to your visit
  • Tell us if you are pregnant and your obstetrician’s name

If you have any questions or concerns about your visit, please ask your nurse, physician or any other staff member.
