Mayo Hospital Obstetrics Department

The Obstetrics Department at Mayo Regional Hospital is designed with comfort and privacy in mind. Our rooms feature home furnishings and warm decor blended with the latest medical technology to create an environment that is high-tech yet soothing and relaxing.

We encourage family participation at Mayo. We provide a home-like atmosphere to encourage bonding with your newborn. Siblings of the baby, grandparents and dads can visit at any time. We offer a pull-out sleep chair for Dad or a designated family member and give you the option of rooming in with your baby. We also prepare Mom and a guest a special meal to help celebrate the newest arrival to your family!

The Obstetrics Department consists of two labor & delivery/ recovery (LDR) rooms, one triage room, three postpartum/gynecological patient rooms, and a newborn nursery. Anesthesia coverage is available 24 hours per day. All newborns have the opportunity for a newborn hearing screening and expanded newborn blood spot screening.

Other programs offered through the department include childbirth education classes (which include breastfeeding education), sibling classes, and ongoing breastfeeding support. The staff can provide the latest information on breastfeeding supplies and rental information. We offer free tours of the department -- just call ahead and schedule a convenient time.

Childbirth Education:

Childbirth Education is a series of classes to prepare expectant parents for the birth of their baby. The expectant mother is encouraged to bring a family member or close friend with them as a labor coach. The childbirth classes are designed for the last trimester (final three months) of pregnancy. Casual dress is recommended and couples are encouraged to bring pillows and a blanket for comfort when scheduled for floor exercises starting on the third week of class. A healthy snack is offered during break time each week. We also offer an extended tour of the OB Department during the series. The fee for the childbirth education series is $75. Most insurance plans and Medicaid will pay for these classes. Please call 564-4293 to register.
