Intensive Care Department
Mayo Regional Hospital has the only Intensive Care Unit in Piscataquis County. This self-contained unit has four individual modules located around a central nurses station. Monitoring of the patients is accomplished with the latest technology available and specially trained Critical Care Nurses.
Hospitalists Thomas Murray, M.D. and Elizabeth Dennis, D.O. are specialists in internal medicine and spend their time in the hospital providing Intensive/Critical Care to Mayo's patients.
Visiting hours in the Intensive Care Unit are dictated by the high acuity of our patients. Our Primary responsibility is to deliver quality care to our patients; visitors are limited to members of the immediate family.
Waiting areas are located just outside of the ICU and in the main lobby of the hospital. We recognize that this is a stressful time for family members; the nursing staff will make an effort to keep the family updated on the patient's condition. It would be in the best interest of the family if one member were designated the "family spokesperson." This person would have the latest information and would be the contact person for the rest of the family.
Members of the Clergy are always welcome. If your minister or priest is not available, the Unit staff will contact the hospital chaplain for you. A meditation room for quiet and prayer is located in the main lobby. You may visit the meditation room at any time.
