DOVER-FOXCOFT - A new tobacco cessation program will be launched at Mayo Regional Hospital on a monthly basis during 2006. Tom Earley from the Counseling Program and Kim Havea from Cardiopulmonary Services will be the key presenters, and the program will be open to Mayo patients, hospital staff and community members. There is no charge. The workshop has three segments addressing the following questions: How does change happen, what tools can help you stop smoking, and what change plan works best for you. The goal is to have each participant leave the session with a six-week personal smoking cessation plan. The workshop is for smokers who want to stop, and also for non-smokers who want to help a family member or friend to quit. Registration is not required for this free workshop. The program will be scheduled from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Borestone conference room at Mayo, generally on the first Monday of each month, on the following dates: Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 10, Aug. 7, Sept. 11, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.
