DOVER-FOXCROFT - Mayo Regional Hospital has recruited Tameem Alsamsam, M.D. as staff anesthesiologist, starting Nov. 1. Dr. Alsamsam will replace W. James Roberts, M.D., who has been Mayo's staff anesthesiologist since 1994. Dr. Roberts will be retiring and returning to Newfoundland, Canada.
Anesthesiologists are physicians who specialize in providing pain relief, and the maintenance or restoration of a stable condition during and after surgical operations and obstetrics or diagnostic procedures. Dr. Alsamsam, who has been board certified in anesthesia since 2001, comes to Mayo from Campbellton Regional Hospital in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada, where he has been staff anesthesiologist for the past five years. A native of Syria, Dr. Alsamsam earned his medical degree from Tishreen University in Lattakia, Syria, and later completed an internship at Hama Medical Center in Syria, as well as a first-year residency in the Department of Anesthesiology, Damascus University. Moving to the United States in 1996, Dr. Alsamsam completed an internal medicine internship at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., and from 1997-2000 finished his residency training in the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Texas Medical School, in Houston. He also completed a year-long fellowship in anesthesia and acute pain management at the University of Texas Medical School. |
