The majority of business was actually done this month in the town of Dexter with a decrease in mutual aid calls; largely due to better staffing in Corinna; an issue on which we continue to work. Most of the transfers were done either from or to Dexter Health Care with one being done from Mayo to EMMC.

Refused transport calls are usually minor car accidents or people who call 911 just to be checked out; they are always offered the opportunity to be transported to the nearest hospital to receive further evaluation and care but usually prefer not to be transported. Cancelled en route calls from the Dexter base are generally to assist Corinna when there is not a paramedic scheduled on that truck. These usually involve the EMT crew from Corinna getting on scene first, evaluating the patient and if there is no need for advanced life support canceling the paramedic.

If you happened to pass by the Dexter Ambulance building on January 25th; you may have wondered why all the cars were parked there. We are holding some of our regular continuing education sessions and staff meetings in Dexter now; alternating with those held at the Dover base to improve attendance and spread the travel burden for staff around more fairly. On the 25th we had a very well-attended training on documentation and vehicle readiness.

All of us at Mayo EMS would like to send a belated Thank you to the Plummer Foundation for their donation for the purchase of a Broselow bag for the Dexter Ambulance. This bag is set up with specialized equipment with a specific easy to follow reference system for pediatric emergencies. We have had these on the Dover trucks for several years courtesy of the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club and they have proven to be invaluable in pediatric emergencies.
