DOVER-FOXCROFT - Robert D. Livingston, Jr., M.D. has joined the active medical staff at Mayo Regional Hospital as the third orthopaedic surgeon employed by Mayo Orthopaedics in Dover-Foxcroft. Dr. Livingston has been board-certified in orthopaedic surgery since 1986 and has been in private practice as an orthopaedic surgeon for 17 years, most of that time in Maine. At Mayo Orthopaedics, he joins Dr. Richard Swett, Dr. Warren “Skip” MacDonald, Jr. and physician assistant William Bisbee in a regional practice that serves all of Piscataquis County, as well as portions of Penobscot County. The practice provides general orthopaedic surgical care for muscoloskeletal injuries and conditions, with services including total joint replacement, sports medicine and treatment of sprains and fractures. The addition of Dr. Livingston will allow Mayo Orthopaedics to expand services through a new, weekly outpatient clinic at Corinna Family Practice, which is also owned by Mayo Regional Hospital. Mayo Orthopaedics providers already have weekly clinics at Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville, and at Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln. A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Livingston’s clinical interests include sports medicine, total joint replacement and shoulder surgery. Although he has practiced in Florida for the past two years, Dr. Livingston’s recruitment by Mayo marks a return to Maine, where he practiced in Waterville from 1989-2003. While in Waterville, he served as chief of orthopaedic surgery, chief of surgery and later was assistant chief of the medical staff at Maine General Medical Center. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Dr. Livingston earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. After medical school he remained on active duty in the U.S. Air Force while completing his internship in general surgery at Keesler U.S. Air Force Medical Center is Mississippi, and his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the Albany Medical College in New York. He later served as an orthopaedic surgeon at Pease Air Force Base Hospital in New Hampshire. Dr. Livingston is married to Linda Livingston, who is a certified nurse anesthetist. The couple lives in Dover-Foxcroft. Appointments with Dr. Livingston may be made by calling Mayo Orthopaedics at 564-8300. |
